Rick Hoyt (aka Boone Ra) has been playing guitar for more than forty years, and mandolin for over twenty. He has played in rock and roll, country, blues, folk, jazz and contra dance groups. He is a prolific song writer, composing in a variety of styles. The Cool Club is the group he formed to play his tunes. The music is best described as “jump jazz, blues, and boogie-woogie, ragtime swing”, including originals and covers in all those genres.
The Cool Club performs most frequently as a trio, but often as a quartet or quintet. The band was originally called the Hot Club of Lyons. After it was pointed out the band played more in a Gerry Mulligan cool jazz style than a Django Reinhardt hot gypsy style, the name was changed to Cool Club of Lyons, and later simply to “The Cool Club.”
